Hello! I thought I was way behind on getting the Newsletter out, until I saw I didn't post the last one until 9 October! *whew! I don't seem to be getting any further behind on things then! I hope everyone is transitioning into the cool fall temperatures and weather well. I know the horses are really starting to get fuzzy. I was suppose to have Luna and April under lights already, but, well, I guess that is one of those things I still have to do! Despite not much horsey happenings in the past month, things have been busy. We are still planning on taking Luna and April to the Last Chance show in Columbia, MO on December 20 for the Hunter In Hand classes. Luna is only 3 points shy of her Open HIH ROM and we'd like to keep chipping away at it - and this would be April's first time out. April is really gaining some weight, although still on the thin side. She loves to work and is always trying extra hard to please. I have her nearly caught up (training wise) to Ellie, our weanling. Although, Ellie has just been being a horse for the past 2 months, so I'm sure she'll be needing some refreshing! April is starting to settle down and walk and jog on the line - not just lope. She has a bit more energy than I am use to with the rest of our horses and Magnum babies we have raised, but I think part of that is her lack of experience her low training level. She is very intelligent and quick to learn. She is a pleasure to work with. I have just started with Luna again - and of course, the weather takes a turn! I have only longed her a couple of times in the past 2 weeks and walked her around to cool her down. She is also a quick learner and is doing well. I wish I had more time to devote to working her under saddle, but I just plain don't, so I think we'll be sending her out in the late winter/early spring to get some consistent time put on her. She easily accepted the saddle - and already had the bit down pat from showing HIH. Of course, she didn't mind a rider and I have jogged and loped her back in August or so a couple of times. Just behind now and with loosing daylight, I am not getting ahead! I am lucky if I have 45 minutes to work her in the evening - so by the time I get her warmed up on the longe line, about all the light I have left is spent walking her and asking her to give. Plus, that time is divided up between the horses! We are getting things figured out though! There will probably be more on plans for Luna in the next Newsletter. Magnum, Peaches and Ellie have just been hanging out...I think they are enjoying it. Peaches and Ellie are quite wooly - and cute, might I add! Once and awhile I longe or jump on Magnum or Peaches and take a short spin - they seem to enjoy it. I know having my new barn area has really made things easier for me to get things done! I LOVE it! We do still have the misfit pony that needs a home - anyone?! Last but not least - Breeding Season is already creeping up on us! Magnum will be standing at Allen Quarter Horses again in 2009. We can't beat their knowledge, care and reasonable prices for the services they provide to us and our Mare Owners. We will once again do a drawing for all mares booked by February 1, 2009. There will be $125 up for grabs for every 5 mares that book by that date. (That is a free collection charge!) Magnum's 2009 stud fee will once again be $700 with a non-refundable booking fee of $200. We are also offering the Live Color Foal Guarantee in 2009, too. Magnum is already enrolled for the Breeder's Trust for all 2010 foals, and they will also be eligible for our home-based incentive - the Magnum Gold Incentive. There are also quite a few open futurities his babies are eligible for. It's time to get these foals out there and have everyone take notice of their abilities! Before I forget, I think that about wraps things up for this month! If I forgot something - I apologize! Just remind me and I'll get it in next month! As always, if you have any questions or comments, get a hold of us!
